Nature Study–Flickers and Thrashers

This afternoon I caught a glimpse of this fellow in my front yard.  I’d never seen anything like him before.

And in perusing a bird site to find the Northern Flicker, I came across the answer to another yard mystery.  Mom, the biggish brown “wren” we saw is actually a Brown Thrasher (state bird of Georgia, apparently).  You learn something new everyday.

    Neat! Rose loves watching the birds in front of our house (there’s a little wooded area between our neighborhood and the highway). We get an amazing variety when we remember to fill our bird feeder. 😉
